There Are Two Baltimore Community Colleges

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Community colleges are not just valuable educational institutions but an integral part of a community, adding to the cultural life of a town. There are two Baltimore community colleges, offering a wide range of studies, and both are very respected in the academic and vocational fields.

Baltimore City Community College began life as a Junior College in 1947 and was part of the public school system to educate returning servicemen from World War II. The college re-located in 1967 and changed its name to The Community College of Baltimore and became an independent institution. The campus was expanded in the 1970s and was renamed again in 1992, when it became the Baltimore City Community College and received its funds from the state of Maryland. The three campuses for this sector of Baltimore community colleges are in the Mondawmin area of the city, the Reistertown Road Plaza and the Inner Harbor site.

The college has 31 degree courses and 28 certificate programs. Courses include healthcare, dental hygiene, nursing and physical therapy. There are also courses in telecommunication, information technology, business administration, criminal justice and hospitality. The sporting life of this representative of Baltimore community colleges includes men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s baseball and women’s volleyball teams.

The Community College of Baltimore County offers associate Degrees and Certificate Programs. This college also has three major campuses, sited at Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex. There are also extension centers at Hunt Valley and Owings Mills. The Dundalk campus is home to the Baltimore County Police Training Academy. Courses at the college include anthropology, biology, electrical engineering and environmental science. There is also computer science and hospitality management and the arts are represented by courses in fine and applied art, dance, music and theatre. Online tutoring is available in computer studies and math.

Sport is actively pursued here too with teams in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball and softball. The Dundalk campus has a multi purpose stadium, gymnasium, baseball stadium and swimming pool. The Essex campus contains indoor marked courts, a weight training room, hard tennis courts and a multi purpose stadium. Baltimore community colleges prepare students for the world of work on campuses equipped with state of the art technology. There is an active social life and organized activities for sport and the arts. The Alumni Society at each college supports students after they have left. Both colleges have different things to offer and Baltimore is the richer for them.

Job Wanted By Everyone

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Make a list of what you want to know, what you need to know, and what you already know about Job Wanted. If you’re looking for a job, it isn’t always easy to find one. You can comb the employment section of area newspapers on a daily basis. However, not all companies will post a help wanted ad when searching for new employees. From my own experience, it is not always beneficial to seek new employees in that manner because it creates a great amount of extra work. For example, a year ago I was seeking to hire an administrative assistant. I put a help wanted ad in our local newspaper, expecting to get some decent replies. Instead, I found myself staring at over 200 resumes after having it appear in just one newspaper publication. Suddenly, I needed to look over every single one of those resumes and ended up finding that almost half of those resumes were a complete waste of time. It amazes me how many people send resumes out just for the sake of sending them. After sorting through all of them, I eventually did find someone but it took me nearly two weeks. I no longer have an interest in posting a help wanted ad. Quite a few companies feel the same way. Ask yourself a few simple questions to determine if you fully understand the concepts that we have went over so far.

Instead, there are online job sites that you can post your own job wanted ad. No matter what position or career you may be seeking, you can list a job wanted ad. That way, employers can find you, instead of you having to find them. It is much simpler for everyone involved. I happen to know of two large companies, besides mine, who have resorted within the past year to finding employees in this manner. I’d much rather spend an hour looking over resumes online and people who have job wanted ads posted than combing through hundreds of pointless resumes. There are still those who will lie on their resumes or job wanted ads, but the chances are not as high as someone who just randomly sends out resumes. Once I see a job wanted ad that interests me, I’ll contact that individual via email or phone. I can tell them about what I am seeking and give them some information, and they can decide on whether or not the position interests them. There are not as many games. Plus, I’m not wasting my time setting up lots of interviews when I really don’t even know what a person really wants. If they’ve taken the time to list a job wanted ad online, I know what they really are looking for.

If you are someone who is contemplating job searching or placing a job wanted ad, I advise you to do so. Let potential employers come to you. It will save you and the employers a lot of time and hassle. You may end up finding the job of your dreams by placing a simple job wanted ad.

In closing, it will benefit you to seek out more resources about Job Wanted if you feel that you do not yet have a firm understanding of the topic.
