Some of the biggest problems that many people have with self-esteem stem from the fact that you don’t get to see other people when they are by themselves. Everyone has dysfunctional habits that hold them back from fulfilling their dreams. You might sit around wondering how to achieve goals, thinking that you are the only one who has serious time management, focus, or motivational problems. You aren’t! Everyone has goals to achieve, and everyone has problems achieving them from time to time. Even the most motivated, driven, and passionate person can fail to get done what they need to do! Once you stop kicking yourself and start realizing that you aren’t alone, you take the first step towards learning how to achieve your goals.

Before you even start thinking about methods used to achieve goals, you have to start with the basics. The most important skill to learn is setting goals. A lot of people make the mistake of coming up with the wrong goals to achieve. They become obsessed with what they think they should do instead of what they want to do. Perhaps they get hung up on their body image because society has told them that everyone has to look skinny and beautiful. Perhaps they set the wrong goals in terms of professional development because they want to please their parents. Whatever the problem, if you don’t have the right goals to achieve, you will never achieve them! The most important thing you can learn about setting and achieving goals is that you can’t be arguing with yourself. If you don’t really want to know do what you are setting out to do, you won’t do it well!

Many people have been told along life’s path that they can be anything they want to be and achieve any dream or goal they may have. Sure, that’s encouraging, but is it actually possible? If you can’t carry a tune to save your life, your dream of being a famous singer probably isn’t very obtainable. To truly achieve your goals, they need to be somewhat realistic. That doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t dream big, you simply need to have a reasonable chance of making it to your final destination. Many people dream of being a millionaire. Well, that is possible. You can achieve your goals of wealth if you work at it. Some people are born into wealthy families and will never have to work a day in their life. Others are not so lucky. If you work hard enough and have the determination, it is possible.

The mistake that many people make is simply thinking that it is possible to achieve your goals without having a clear and realistic plan of getting there. It isn’t possible to go from A to Z in a split second you need to go through the rest of the alphabet to get there. It may be possible to skip a few letters along the way if things are falling into place but you still have to take the path. Every so often, a jackpot of luck will come along and whisk you directly to the end result. That doesn’t happen very often. Achieving your goals takes time, energy, dedication and determination. You need to have a plan in mind and you need to believe in it. It isn’t possible to just wake up one morning and decide that you want to lose 100 lbs. You have to have a plan to get to that end result. Simply thinking it doesn’t mean that it will miraculously happen. Thats where too many people go wrong. As we take the journey through the final part of this article, you can look back at the first part if you need any clarifications on what we have already learned.

Define your plan. Figure out how to achieve your goals in a reasonable time frame. If you tend to be lazy, tell several others what your goal is. Sometimes, when we voice our goals and dreams to others, we feel more determined to accomplish that finish line. Why? We wouldn’t want to look like a failure to the people that we shared our goals with. Start a journal. Write down what you want to accomplish and what steps you need to take in order to achieve your goals. Record your progress in your journal. It is easy to get distracted along the way but in your journal, you are able to constantly remind yourself about what it is you are trying to obtain.

Once you determine exactly how you need to achieve your goals and you know that they are realistic, take the first step in moving forward. Step off of the curb, take a chance reach out to someone who will play a role in assisting you. Just know that in order to achieve your goals, you have to be able to reach them by following a certain path. Once you have that path clearly mapped out, don’t let anything stop you.
